The testimony today has been so riviting that I just pulled away to write to you. There are people listening from London, Japan, germany, Italy, France, Costa Rica, and Canada as well as all over the US. We've received emails from all over the country. If your local Pacifica affliliate isn't carrying the coverage, you can stream the broadcast all weekend at warcomeshome.org or kpfa.org. I've received many emails that the mainstream press has ignored this. If you come across an interesting news article or tv report, post it here.
By the way, we're posting audio from those testifying and some background about the people. You can listen to this later - it's archived and available as soon as we can post it.
Here's the schedule for the rest of the day (Friday). All times are Eastern Standard Time:
Military Contractor testimony - until 3:40 pm
Rules of Engagement testimony - 4:10 - 6:10 pm
Analysis with Iraq War Vet - 6:10 - 7pm We'll be joined by vets Camilo Mejia and Eli Wright. You can email your questions to the vets at wintersoldier@kpfa.org
We want to hear from you - your impressions and questions. As for me, I watch this crowd of veterans - old and young - grasp my dog tags that I've worn today for the first time in many years, and continue to highlight and honor the voices of the testifyers. Stay with us.
AWOL GI's can still go to Canada
Hi Amy,
You and KPFA are doing a great job at the Winter Soldier investigation.
I am also here in D.C., to support IVAW and to talk with people about U.S. war resisters in Canada, with whom I have been working for the last four years.
There are now between 200 and 300 AWOL GIs in Canada, and an important vote is coming up in House of Commons in April on a motion that would allow them to immigrate to Canada.
There is a dearth of accurate information available about U.S. war resisters in Canada, and therefore a lot of confusion about the "Canada option."
If you have a chance to put me on the radio for a while during the hearings this weekend, I would love to set the record straight with the latest information from Canada.
I am also on the national steering committee of the Friends and Family of Lt. Watada, and would love to give a brief update on his ongoing struggle as well.
I will be onsite tonight and on Saturday and Sunday.
Feel free to call me on my cell phone, 206-499-1220.
I look forward to seeing you.
Keep up the great work!
for peace and justice,
Gerry Condon
